How to transfer a domain from Yahoo to Godaddy

Do you have a domain registered with Yahoo that you’d like to transfer to another registrar? I have transferred domains from Yahoo to Godaddy a number of times with no problems at all, and you can as well if you follow these simple instructions.

Domains can’t be transferred with the first sixty days.

First, log in to Yahoo and unlock your domain. While you’re in there take note of your authorization code, you’ll need it to make the transfer. Also make sure your primary email is correct, or the transfer won’t work. Cancel nothing with Yahoo at this time.

Next, request your transfer. Using Godaddy, it’s as simple as buying a domain transfer. Make sure when you are checking out that you check keep existing nameservers if you want to keep the domain hosted where it’s currently hosted.

In a short while you should receive an email from Godaddy. Your next step will be to log into your Godaddy account and go to domains, my domains, then pending transfers. Click on the domain name you want transferred to Godaddy and from the authorization button on the right choose begin transfer authorization. You will be asked for a transaction id and security code. You should have received both of these in the same email from Godaddy. Enter these and click continue. You will be asked to accept or reject the transfer. Click accept, since you’re transferring it to yourself. You will be asked for the authorization code. That’s the code I told you to make note of while you were in yahoo. Enter that code and click continue. You should receive a message saying that your change is processing. After a few minutes you’ll notice in the pending domain transfer panel that the status now reads accept transfer at current registrar. That means now Godaddy is waiting for the approval from yahoo for the transfer.

You should receive an email from Godaddy in a few days telling you the transfer has been completed. You can log in to your Godaddy account to be sure. Then log in to the Yahoo account and cancel the domain plan. Then I like to also delete any payment information on file.

That’s it. It’s very easy and it sounds much more complicated than it really is.
