When I first learned about Twitter I signed up for it but didn’t do anything with it. Only in the last couple of months have I begun to use it. I see Twitter as sort of a combination between text messaging, instant messaging and blogging. It started out as a way to let other people know what you’re doing, but has evolved into much more. You can use Twitter, or “Tweet”, from the web or from a mobile phone. The maximum amount of characters your message can have is 140. It’s very social, you can follow (my son calls it stalk) others and be aware of their tweets almost as soon as they’re made. Twitter has gotten so popular that other applications have been created just for it, some of which I’ll be taking a look at on this blog. There’s a lot more to Twitter, this is just a basic intro for those unfamiliar. Twitter is free to sign up for, just provide your email and some basic info and choose your screen name and you’re set. Do you use Twitter?
Possibly related postsEntrecard has placed a Twitter feed on the Entrecard blog that automatically picks up any tweet that pertains to Entrecard. If you click on the tweet you’re brought to the Twitter page for that Entrecard member. What a great way to promote and self promote. It’s also a great way to meet new people and gain more experience using social media. I think it was a great idea. I use Twitter and I have Entrecard on a couple of my sites. Do you use Entrecard and/or Twitter?
Possibly related postsIn August Yahoo launched it’s own social bookmarking and voting site. It’s called Yahoo Buzz. Yahoo Buzz is free to join and use. To register you need a Yahoo account. Then you’ll want to add a Buzz button, which ideally people will click to buzz your article. Yahoo will give you the code to make the button but before it will work you’ll need to replace the word ARTICLEURL in the code with the link of the story you are promoting. Wordpress users, you can grab the WPBuzz widget and configure it right from the Wordpress dashboard and it will do the work for you.
